Now that American Airlines has acquired US Airways, there is speculation Orange County John Wayne Airport could be adding new destinations and daily flights.
Gate Occupancy at Orange County John Wayne Airport
Currently, American Airlines and US Airways occupy gates at terminals A and B of the SNA Airport. But with US Airways adapting the American Airline’s brand identity and logo, there will most likely be a little shuffling around at the Orange County hub.
At Gate #8, American Airlines Admirals Club resides on the mezzanine level at the Orange County John Wayne Airport. For Admiral Club members, the quaint lounge serves as an exclusive respite away from the rest of SNA Airport. Nineteen combined flights from US Airways and American Airlines currently depart from SNA Airport.
Enhanced Flight Schedule in California
According to a spokesperson of American Airlines, the airline’s merger means that there will be a total of 367 daily departures out of California, from 16 different locations: Los Angeles, Sacramento, Oakland, San Jose, Ontario, San Francisco, Long Beach, Monterey, Bakersfield, Fresno, San Diego, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo Palm Springs, Burbank,and of course Santa Ana-Orange County.
Orange County Airport has seen a 2.9 percent increase in commuter flights. Meanwhile, American Airlines still plans to purchase 607 new aircraft by the end of the year.
Economy Flights and Seating
Although American Airlines acquired US Airways, there are not any plans to create economy flights. However, the major airline will continue its special seating products: ChoiceSeats and Preferred Seat.

As American Airlines maintains headquarters in Dallas-Fort Worth, the largest commercial airline carrier plans to uphold its corporate and operational presence in Phoenix, Arizona.
